Select a size and one of their many amazing themes and start creating the book. Select the photos in the Photos app, right click and select Mimeo instead of the Book option. It will only work with High Sierra or above. You need to download the extension from the Apple store. You’ll notice a digital dot structure too, since it’s not a silver halide book. It’s a nice print, but colours looked a bit colder than they should be, which I noticed with the old Apple books too. Printing: The books are printed using digital printers.Paper: There is no info about the paper on the website, but from my guessing it’s a 148-170gsm paper, it’s silky and feels nice to touch with a very subtle sheen. If you create one of the small books, they can only have a glossy softcover.īarcode only on the inside of the spine, just like in the old Apple book Inside the dust jacket you can see the same style barcode as in the Apple book. You can customise it in any way you want to. An imagewrap matt hardcover with a dust jacket. Cover: One cover option, the exact same as the Apple book used to have.Little section of the photo lost in the middle in double spread layouts Top Mimeo On the spine there is a bit of fabric too for added elegance. There is a nice grey empty double spread at the start and at the end of the book (just like Apple) and a silver Mimeo logo on the end sheet. The binding is good, however, there seems to be a little gap in the middle, it’s hard to explain, but perhaps the binding is not tight enough (two staples) and you can see a white line inside the spine. Binding: The books are perfect bound meaning they don’t stay fully flat. It’s an okay selection but there could be a few more sizes. Sizes: Comes in the same sizes as Apple used to.Follow me on Instagram for more travel photography: 8x8", 10x10" The photos in this book were taken on the Isle of Tiree with my SONY a6000. Use the code BOOKGURU to get 20% off your order! It has some of the old Apple themes, furthermore, you can reprint your old Apple photo books with Mimeo too. Once you download it, it will show up in your Photos app, so no need export photos, you can create your books inside Photos. The old school Apple editor is gone, however, Mimeo’s editor is very similar to what Apple Photos used to be, but gives you more freedom in moving things around. Although the books are the same, the logo and the editor has changed. So is there any difference at all? Well…yes. Back in the days, Mimeo was the third party supplier of Apple books, so if you want to get the same books that you are used to from Apple, Mimeo is your best shot. Many Apple substitutes are popping up on the market (more on that in a later post) but Mimeo is the “official” new Apple photo book provider. Cry no more! They are not really gone, they just got a new name: Mimeo. You have probably all heard the sad news that Apple photo books are gone for good.
